Canada-Settlement worker:
- provided essential guidance to asylum seekers in navigating legal and immigration processes, in a consistent culturally-sensitive manner, aiding them to overcome challenges and transition smoothly into self-reliant, contributing members of Canadian society.
- Assisted asylum seekers/clients who resided temporarily at the hotel site, when needed, in applying for all the necessary post-arrival government services and documents, at both the provincial and federal levels, including but not limited to, work and study permits, refugee claims mainly administered by the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada, Legal Aid Ontario, Canada Revenue Agency services, and social assistance programs such as Ontario Works and the Ontario Disability Support Program.
- Supported clients to attend a wide range of service provider appointments, ranging from medical visits, ESL classes (some of which were offered onsite), banks, public transportation, to employment orientation meetings and workshops, service centres, IRCC interviews and so forth, by offering volunteer language support in a form of improvised interpretation, helping to complete application forms and accompanying them to physical appointment locations.
- Oriented clients on the best, most feasible and newcomer -friendly means to seek employment. This work was done by encouraging job-ready asylum seekers to attend employment orientation sessions and job fairs, visit some mainstream job-matching websites, and as necessary, link them with available vacancies.
- Offered advice, guidance and valuable information about newcomers’ rights and entitlements within the provincial and federal systems, especially in the fields of civil rights and the police, children’s education, housing and social housing benefits, without overlooking their pressing needs of finding decent temporary or permanent accommodation considering their financial state.
- Worked beside onsite IRCC agents on completing service feedback templates, compiling and reporting data and statistics to IRCC related to service efficiency and improvement areas.
- Undertook a vital role, in collaboration and consultation with a multidisciplinary team of IRCC processing agents, social workers, education counselors, logistic staff and mundane service providers, in managing and organizing the resident asylum seekers’ affairs at the hotel, particularly by attending to their immediate daily needs and questions, unique requests related to accessibility and special accommodations, and any emergency situations that may arise.
Jordan-follow-up supervisor:
- Ensured that every assigned task within the confectionary business is systematically reported and followed through to completion within the timeframe set, with a particular emphasis on client contacts, making sure that nothing gets overlooked in any area.
- Kept track of the progress of each and every supply order, by working directly with staff immediately identifying any supply, shipping or distribution gap prior to delivery to the end client.
- Acted as a channel of communication between senior management and the production department on the one hand, and customers and venders on the other. These contacts would take place on some mainstream social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, where I followed up in a consistent fashion on any complaints, follow-up requests or even minor purchasing changes.
- Conducted periodic stocktaking meetings with a view to monitor main and secondary targets, stock adequacy and client satisfaction.
