I have been a nurse for 14 years and have worked in a variety of settings such as Lake of the Woods District Hospital, clinic, RAAM, Outreach and Morning Star Medically Managed Alcohol Withdrawal Center. I am currently working full time as a Clinical Care Coordinator at Waasegiizhig Nanaandawe'iyewigamig and as a casual with LWDH.
I was trained as a resource float nurse with the ability to work in the fast pace emergency department, on the chronic care floor, the acute medical surgical floor, the Psychiatric unit, medical ambulance transfers, wound care clinic and pre-operative clinic. I have the ability to engage with patients at all stages in their care. This role provides the opportunity for excellent skill enhancements. I have a certificate in wound care and I am also certified as an advanced diabetic foot care nurse. I have recently taken a course in Trauma Care Nursing, Alcohol Withdrawal Management and Opiate Withdrawal. I have also attended several conferences involving Harm Reduction, Homelessness and Opioid crisis involving Indigenous People. My CPR was renewed April 11, 2024 and I am able to administer naloxone. I have received training for HIV and Hep C. I have taken a wound care course, advanced diabetic foot care and an Immunization Course.
I am a great team member and can work independently as well. I establish rapport with staff and patients easily. I was a police officer for 11 years previously to being a nurse. I worked in Pikangikum as a First Nations Constable for 2 years and then transferred to Kenora OPP. I have a lot of life experience and insight that allows me to connect with my clients and help support them with an holistic approach.
