After joining retiring from School District 8 and joined the counseling team at Kaslo Community Services, I received much training to learn the various aspects of my jobs there and to become education re: intense family dynamics and healing/counseling modalities.
When I started there, I came with extensive training in Nonviolent Communication, Restorative Justice and the Alternatives to Violence Projects.
During my time there, I received training in Traditional Parenting, My Tween and Me, Imago Couple's Therapy, Sexual Abuse Prevention, Focusing for Trauma Resolution and Hakomi - a mindfulness, somatic based psychotherapy.
I worked as Family Support Worker for KCS which is a nonprofit barrier free counseling service. I was responsible for running parent education groups, providing referrals and resources to parents, individual counseling of parents and/or their children all in an effort to improve family functioning. Most of my clients were adult self-referrals and I also received referrals from the Ministry of Children and Family development to support parents in learning the skills to parent their children more effectively.
I worked as the PEACE counsellor for Kaslo Community Services. My role was to support youth 3 to 19 years of age, learn nonviolent ways of responding to conflict in their lives and families. I co-facilitated an Open Art Studio at JVH Humphries School in Kaslo and at Crawford Bay Elementary/Secondary School, as well as ran "friendship groups" for elementary students in both schools.
I also counseled individual youth who were living with intense family conflict or had witnessed abuse.
I was responsible for teaching .7 of time in the Intermediate classroom as well as all the leadership duties a Principal is responsible for.
Some of those included: responding to student discipline issues, supervising teaching and classroom support staff, interacting with other CUPE staff (bus drivers, maintenance, IT, and specialist staff) interacting and responding to parent and student concerns, attending SD8 administration meetings, communicating information between Jewett Elementary School staff and Senior Management, managing the school's budget and timetable, attending Parent Advisory Council meetings, interviewing new teachers,
I had several different assignments during this time. I was the Learning Assistance and Music teacher for Kindergarten to Gr. 7. Then I became the main teacher for the Intermediate students Gr. 5 - 7 and continued to teacher Music K-7.
I worked as a Grade One teacher and Home Ec teacher for Grade 8 to 10 at JV Clark Elementary/ Secondary School. I was also the sponsor teacher for the Student Council.
I worked as a Kindergarten/Nursery School teacher at the band run school and also at SD 84's Kyuquot Elementary Secondary school and a Learning Assistant teacher and Home Ec teacher for grades 1 - 10.
I take weekly voice lessons and participate in the Kuimba Choir.
I enjoy the natural beauty of our area, kayaking, ebiking and walking the trails.
I also an currently the Chair of the Kaslo Community Acupuncture Society board. We are very motivated to offer complementary health services, barrier-free and close to home, through a bi-weekly community acupuncture clinic located at the Heritage Hall in Kaslo, BC.
