I have been a front line paramedic since 1987. In that time I have served in a frontline supervisor role for 21 years. I have worked in the Metro, Urban, Rural and remote postings. I have worked in the Northern area of the province for almost 30 years. I have recently been involved with the Northern DEOC for the hospital diversions and Wildfires in 2024.

When I started the position my area of responsibility was from Ft Nelson in the north to Bella Coola in the south, Ft St James to the east, and Valemount to the west. When I left my area of responsibility was Prince George to Bella Coola to Ft St James to Valemount

-I scheduled the inservice training for the operational staff in this area.

- arranged the instructors, and also myself to instruct these courses.

-I have been a International Trauma Life Support, Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals, Airway Interventions and Management in Emergencies, and CPR C/AED instructor.

-I have completed Educator pathways I and II from PHSA

-I am currently an instructor for learning and have been since 2006

-As an instructor I have had to evaluate the operational staff and provide feedback.

-I arranged station visits and conducted some in the moment training based on what the staff requested.

This was a program where I would go into the high schools and instruct the teachers on how to teach their students AED/CPR.

This was a volunteer position.

- I evaluated candidates practical exams, to ensure that they were safe to practice on their own. These were Primary Care Paramedics and Emergency Medical responders.

-I also had to give feedback after the exam sessions to both the successful and unsuccessful candidates


Instructor Public Access to Defibrilation Program

-This is a program that was supported by BCEHS and the Canadian Heart and Stroke foundation.

-I would go and instruct the public on the use of the AED and teach them CPR as well.

-These devices were supplied by BCEHS and Heart and stroke to community groups such as hockey arenas, senior centres, community centres, museums, and public areas.

This was done with a honorarium.

- I also attended with the Heart and Stroke meetings to promote the program to the various organizations

I worked as a Unit Chief in Vanderhoof, Osoyoos, and Vernon.

- I made the monthly schedule and also maintained it by filling shifts that came open. I needed to follow the current practices for allocating shifts.

- I looked after arranging for the regular maintenance of the vehicles for the station. Also arranged for the spare vehicles when the vehicles broke down or in for maintenance.

-Working with the staff and manager to improve the efficiency of the station.

-Build relationships with the local health representatives, and other first responders.

- Work with the staff at the station in a effort to build a respectful workplace.

-Be an advocate for both the staff and employer when applying the policies and collective agreement

-Treat all staff with respect and apply the policies in a fair manner

-Be an example for the staff by adhering to the policies and being an example of professionalism.

- Trained in ICS 100,200,300 and EOC planning and operations.

Started as part time paramedic in Valemount BC. Took full time PCP I.V.

While in Vancouver it did some Acting Unit Chief duties, and preceptor on a two person ambulance for the EMA II (PCP I.V. now).

I learned how to work with the different agencies (Police, and fire departments) to provide the best patient care, and allow all to achieve their goals.

While in Vancouver we did not have the services of Paramedic Specialists or EPOS. Patient care decisions were made in the moment. I did confer with the receiving doctor of our treatment when we arrived at the hospital
