- My duties with M&O were mostly based aboard Navy vessels in drydock or in floating dock and included:
- -Use of power and air tools such as grinders, needle guns, palm sanders and die grinders to prepare various metal surfaces for priming and painting
- -Using a roller and brush to prime and paint various surfaces
- -Be able to identify and mix different kinds of paints and primers to accurately and properly coat surfaces
- -Maintain a clean workspace at all times and follow strict cleaning and housekeeping procedures
- -Identify and safely remove lead based paints and ensure their proper disposal
- -Use pressure washers to clean the outsides of the ships
- During my time at M&O I also performed some flooring work, replacing tile floors on board Navy vessels and at the IWK Hospital. I was required to remove and lay vinyl tile and ensure their proper disposal while maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
