Canskate and FirstShift, worked alongside Bauer and CCM for a collective 7 years, these programs have taught hundreds of children
to skate and love the game of hockey. The programs are available to children of all ages, able bodied or not. This has allowed me to work with children who may need more time, care and attention than others, teaching me how to appropriately share my time based on the children's needs and abilities.
Food Share, the food share program ran through my highschool, a morning table set out for individuals who may not have a breakfast at home. For this volunteer position I would arrive at school early and set out the designated snacks for that day. This volunteer opportunity has taught me to never be blind to other situations. Persisting to put others first and prioritize giving back.
Children Summer Camps, throughout high school volunteering at summer camps was how my summers were spent. Adapting to new environments and schedules. Having a solution based perspective when assisting coordinators or children to overcome issues.
Dunrobin Neighbourhood Tornado, have volunteered alongside another student by collecting essential supplies and necessities for living for the families directed or indirectly affected by the Dunrobin Tornado. Families had larger issues to worry about such as finding supplement housing, providing the small things we could was more than fulfilling.
Trent University TES Placements, Throughout each one of my placements I met a new classroom full of students. The days I am there it is my job to give them my full attention, learning each one of their names and individual plans. Within a classroom I have learned to set expectations for myself, work according to the schedules of others and be flexible to other’s needs. I have worked alongside children of any age group learning how to navigate and change plans according to behaviour. Managing challenging behaviours while maintaining attentive to a larger population.
My Placements have involved special education classrooms, assisting with children hard of hearing, psychological or physical disabilities in their daily activities within the school environment.
