Sourcing & Contracts Specialist
Diavik Diamond Mines Inc (owned by Rio Tinto)
Yellowknife, NT
11.2009 - 03.2016
As Sourcing Specialist in a Diamond Mine located in the high arctic of Canada. I was responsible for both supply chain and contracts for the mine site.
Key aspects of the role include, but are not limited to:
Sourcing & Purchasing in excess of US $100,000, which included Inventory purchasing and direct charge purchasing for the annual winter road, including heavy equipment. Working a 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off rotation, I was the sole Sourcing & Contracts Specialist on the mine site.
This required close coordination with all departments and operations at the site, and made my position varied. I was responsible for purchasing of anything and everything that was required to sustain an isolated mine site with over 2000 employees & contractors on base at all times. In conjunction with purchasing and contracts, I also worked with the mine maintenance for parts and equipment repair & returns and expediting. With the mine being located 300km northeast of the closest city (Yellowknife, NT),all freight, materials, equipment and supplies needed to be transported by air, or along the winter road (which only operated for 2 months of the year). A large part of my responsibilities was the coordination with logistics companies to receive, stage and forward all orders identified as being trucked on the Winter Road. Prioritizing shipments, locating delayed, incomplete or lost shipments and reconciling Bills of Lading against inventory received on site also fell within my portfolio of responsibilities.
Responsible for all aspects of Contract Management, known as Cradle to Grave, I would draft RFP/Tenders for bidding, evaluate tenders, award, create contract, and monitor KPI’s and performance with management/end user. I worked directly with Rio Tinto legal department, based in Montreal, PQ, Canada, and Salt Lake City, UT, USA to ensure all contracts complied with company policies and procedures. Contracts for the mine covered all areas and departments. As such I have extensive experience in contracts for Supply of Services & Products, Consultancy Services, Heavy Equipment Purchases and Letter Agreements for Ad-Hoc work. As contracts covered all areas of the mine, I was also required to attend contract negotiations, quarterly and annual performance reviews, and any labour or project issues that may arise.
