Katarina Kasic

Working as a cook at the Ontario Science Centre Valley Kitchen, I prepared meals efficiently under time constraints for timely service during peak hours. I was often required to multi-task, coordinate, and work with the rest of the kitchen staff to execute the menu and meet Compass Group's food safety and hospitality standards. I put my organizational skills to use when working with the chef to complete tasks such as ordering food from produce companies, completing temperature logs, and creating fresh and exciting menus at the start of every season. As a team player, I worked alongside my colleagues to ensure that food quality and presentation maintained high standards and was served efficiently. My leadership skills were strengthened when I was in charge of our Chef's Table food station. I managed opening and closing shift kitchen tasks, delegated tasks to my co-workers, and worked alongside them to ensure everything ran smoothly. I thoroughly enjoyed working in this position and grew and learned a lot over the past three years.

When I started working for Locomotion Music, it was just after the height of COVID-19, when mask mandates and social distancing were still imperative. This was my first experience teaching in a music school, and I learned a lot during my time here. As a Locomotion teacher, I was responsible for instructing students from different musical levels and backgrounds. I enjoyed working with beginner and intermediate-level students, teaching them classical piano and music theory, and discussing personal and professional goals with each of my students to plan my lessons accordingly. I also held introductory lessons online for Locomotion. I was required to submit short and long-term progress reports for all of my students, and I worked with my employer to improve the quality of my teaching.
