• Clinical placement at Rocky View General Hospital - Unit 83 (colorectal surgical), unit 81 (Orthopedics), and unit 74 (general medicine)
- Unit 83: provided care to patients pre and post op while focusing on management of symptoms like nausea and vomiting, pain management, dressing changes and providing education to patients on how to take care of incision at home. Followed vital protocol, conducted detailed assessments to identify any changes in patient health status.
- unit 81: provided patient care as per professional scope, conducted detailed assessments, performed dressing changes, and focused on ambulating patients post op to help patients reach their goals.
- unit 74: provided care to different age groups with diverse health conditions, including heart failure, CKD, DKA, respiratory distress, liver cirrhosis and more. Focused on patient diagnosis, management of symptoms, and comfort care using both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
• Clinical placement at Peter Lougheed Centre - final focus at unit 52 (orthopedic), PLC unit 32 and 33 (postpartum)
- Unit 52: Gained experience in performing thorough assessments, followed post op vital protocol, received post -op and ER admits into care, demonstrated safe medication administration, symptom management, collaborated with interdisciplinary team including PT, MD and Charge Nurse, reported of any changes in patient health status to charge nurse, provided discharge teaching, prepared patients for procedures like surgery or x-rays, and helped patients meet their goals towards discharge, such as ambulation, and pain management.
- Unit 32 and 33: Provided care to both mother and the newborn and helped them reach their goals towards discharge, such as monitoring outputs and bleeding (lochia) amount. Conducted through assessments on both newborns and mothers. Provided emotional support to mothers. Provided guidance to mothers and families in taking care of the newborn including feeding, newborn output, and making aware of normal vs abnormal signs.
• Clinical placement at Foothills Hospital - Mental Health Unit 21/22
- Unit 21/22: Conducted comprehensive mental health assessments to identify any changes in a patient's condition or behavior and established rapport with patients to foster trust. Participated in non-crisis interventions training.
