As Clutterbot moved from focusing on R&D to production, I moved into the role of COO to support company wide timeline management and business planning to ensure we could meet company milestone and launch our product.

As the company grew I spent time across both mechanical design and product management to ensure our product was being designed with customer-centric principles and enforced lean startup ideas to get prototypes quickly into real customers homes to better understand customer expectation and prove prototype value. I led both the mechanical design team and product team until growing to a point where we hired/promoted new leaders to take on these responsibilities.

  • Built a product team with a single industrial designer to a product management function with 3 product managers working across, hardware, software and mobile portfolios
  • Acting team lead for mechanical and product teams for over 1 year, until promoting other into the roles
  • Involved in over 50 customer interviews to ensure the robot was meeting the customer needs
  • Helped develop customer personas and determine the ideal target market
  • Set up customer testing program that now has our product working with customers almost everyday

Mechatronics Engineer

Second employee to be hired for a new startup trying to solve a complex problem for parents. Primary responsibility was to develop innovative prototypes to pick up objects around customers homes. Really did everything to support an early stage startup from, building prototypes, finding office space, hiring employees, leading brainstorming event, working with CEO around company and product vision.

  • Empathized with customer and used feedback to lead design principles
  • Helped grow team from 2 to around 10 employees
  • Designed full robotic assemblies in solid works
  • Used rapid prototyping tools like 3D printing and OEM parts to validate mechanism quickly
  • Critical member in developing the key robotic principles still used in Clutterbots product today
