  • Implement treatment interventions as assigned by the Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists to support individual patient objectives in daily living, physical functioning and cognitive functioning in an acute care setting.
  • Provide treatment interventions within the Medical, Surgical, Stroke, Step Down and Intensive Care Units while maintaining effective communication with nursing and other team members to ensure safe and effective treatment for patients, and the safety of other staff members. Patients present with an extensive variety of health conditions including, but not limited to, cardio respiratory, neurological, orthopedic, gastrointestinal, mental health, and often complex combinations of health conditions.
  • Common treatment interventions performed include; ambulation, balance and strengthening programs, transfer training, range of motion, activities of daily living such as toileting, dressing and grooming, cognitive and life skills, fine and gross motor strength and coordination, visual perception and scanning, sensory processing, wheelchair set-up and modification, assistive/adaptive training, patient and family education. Each intervention is documented as per regulatory and facility standards on patients electronic chart.
  • Maintain and promote a positive attitude toward clients and treatment programs. Focusing on the safety and comfort of the patient, interventions are carried out one on one with the patient, and/or in accompaniment with a therapist or an OTA/PTA.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with multiple Occupational and Physiotherapists and Assistants, through verbal communication and computer documentation.
  • Observe when patient’s treatment plans may require modifying and consult the appropriate therapist. Contribute ideas to have treatments successfully meet patient’s individual needs and abilities.
  • Perform duties in accordance with applicable standards, policies and regulatory guidelines to promote a safe working environment.

  • Provide treatment interventions within the Inpatient Rehabilitation, and Complex Care Units.   • Interventions may be conducted one on one with a patient, or by managing two to three individual patient treatment programs at one time within the rehabilitation gym, or, held as a group program which may require modifying each exercise to each participants abilities and goals.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with the OT, PT and other members of the multi-disciplinary team through verbal communication and computer documentation.
