teaching curriculum includes:
- beginning jazz piano:
one hour class of assisting piano students perform/learn jazz music/techniques
-beginning/intermediate drum and percussion lessons:
private lessons with one student for one hour, and practice hour for two hours with 5-10 children, learning basic rudiments and patterns
- substitute intermediate bass guitar teacher
focusing on technique, and playing with an ensemble, while coming up with new challenges/games to learn the music
- teach 2-hour piano classes a day to 6-8 students:
- at the beginning of the year, I allow my students to select the repertoire they would like to perform at their end of semester concert.
- helped students focus on rudimentary/light improvisational playing
- created conversations about the history of music, composers, and general instrumentation
- Facilitated productive rehearsals with musicians/band, tightening up performances with each one
- Developed strong improvisational skills, learning how to think quickly in the moment and make great musical decisions for the band
