Teaching is one of the most impactful vocations in the world, shaping the future of individuals and communities. The impact of a teacher has lasting effects on how a student understands their environment, how they choose to make a difference in their world, and how they perceive themselves as contributors in their world. As a child, I was diagnosed with an anxiety IEP and struggled in school. Without the belief and guidance I received from my teachers, I would not be where I am today. For this reason, I am dedicated to pursuing a career in teaching. Teachers play a crucial role in helping students discover their potential, especially in today's world, where there are so many factors affecting a child's mental well-being. I aspire to be an educator that affects a student's academic achievement and mental well-being so positively that they are able to be successful contributors in society and positive role-models in their personal lives, just as my teachers were for me. Throughout my educational journey, I was fortunate enough to have incredible teachers who devoted their time to help me succeed. They encouraged me to always strive for excellence and helped me believe in myself. Their dedication and creative teaching methods allowed me to see positive results academically and personally. They instilled in me a love for learning and taught me the importance of resilience, patience, and compassion. I was able to gain first-hand teaching experience and reciprocate these traits as a swim instructor. At DZ Swim Academy, I learned the importance of adapting teaching strategies based on a child's strengths and areas of need. For instance, I had to differentiate my instruction to meet the students where they were, and build upon their strengths in order to meet their individual goals. Additionally, my volunteer work at St Justin Martyr CES gave me a deeper understanding of the classroom environment and the dynamics of working with diverse groups of students. I was also able to gain a better understanding of the importance of being organized and prepared for each day. Through preparation and planned activities, students were able to better engage in classroom activities. As a result, a positive space was created where trusting relationships can grow, and a sense of community was built. I believe teachers have a gift, that when used in collaboration with an effective team with a shared vision, they can empower others and help them achieve their true potential. My experiences as a student, swim instructor, and volunteer have equipped me with the right tools to bring creativity and passion to the classroom. I believe in multidimensional diversity and trusting relationships with students. Most importantly, I believe in being accessible to my students and always adapting strategies to ensure student success.
