  • I was employed as a Police Officer for the City of Orange Police Department from April 1988 to June 2004
  • During that time, I was assigned to numerous specialty positions that have significantly enhanced my experience
  • My most recent and final assignment, was as a Detective assigned to the Major Narcotics Unit
  • In August of 1991, I was selected to work in the Orange Police Department’s Narcotics Unit, as a rotating position for six months
  • During this time, I was assigned to the S.C.A.T

  • Team’s primary goals were targeting and arresting street level narcotics dealers
  • During my assignment on the S.C.A.T
  • Team, I worked in plain clothes, and had the opportunity to work several narcotics investigations
  • Additionally, I conducted numerous surveillances, worked with confidential informants, and was involved in the writing and service of narcotics related search warrants
  • In October of 1993, I was selected and assigned to the Orange Police Bike Team
  • While assigned to the Bike Team, I created an after school gang prevention program, that was widely recognized both within the City of Orange as well as the County of Orange
  • This was evident by a Countywide nomination for outstanding Community Oriented Policing, as well as being awarded the Orange Police Department’s Medal of Merit
  • During 1996-1998 I obtained my vocational teaching credential and was employed by the Orange Unified School District
  • I was an instructor for the Regional Occupation Program (R.O.P.) and taught Law Enforcement I at Canyon High School, Anaheim Hills, CA and also taught at Villa Park High School, Villa Park, CA
  • Throughout my career at OPD I have had the opportunity to be an instructor for the Citizens Academy as well as conducting numerous instructional and informative presentations to local High Schools and Colleges
  • In December of 1997, I responded to an Officer involved shooting, regarding a former Cal Trans employee
  • A disgruntled former employee had gone on a shooting rampage at the Cal Trans yard, armed with an AK-47 assault rifle
  • The suspect also possessed a 12-gauge shotgun, multiple handguns, and several hundred rounds of ammunition
  • The shooting spree resulted with the suspect injuring one and killing four Cal Trans employees
  • The suspect fled a short distance in his vehicle, where a second gun battle with Orange Police Officers erupted
  • While exchanging gunfire with the suspect, I was struck with a round from his AK-47
  • The rifle round struck me in my lower back, and went through both the back and front panels of my ballistic vest
  • For my involvement in this incident, I was awarded the Orange Police Department’s Medal of Courage
  • In June of 2004, I retired from the Orange Police Department
