Summary

I am a passionate teacher with international experience and have worked with languages curriculums for years. I work hard to make my classroom an open and welcoming space for the diverse learners in our building. For me, connection is key, and I work hard to develop and nurture genuine relationships with the young people I serve. I am dynamic and curious, and I enjoy collaborating with my colleagues, and learning about new ways of delivering content, and engaging students in their learning.

Work History

Teacher

Greater Victoria School District
09.2008 - Current

For the past 15 years I have worked as a classroom French, English, and ELL teacher. I use TPRS strategies for language learning, and currently teach French and ELL. For the past 10 years, I have also been the ELL support teacher in my school. In my support role, I meet with, and advocate for immigrant and refugee students and their families. I work collaboratively with my colleagues to find ways that will allow ELs to succeed with the curricular competencies in their respective courses.

I also facilitate intake meetings of new students, work with our new Welcome and Learning Centre, and make referrals to a variety of community organizations who can support families with different needs, including counseling.

Teacher on Call

Saskatoon Public School Division
01.2008 - 06.2008

During my short time with Saskatoon Public, I worked as a TOC in both English and French Immersion classrooms from grades 2-12. As a former student of Saskatoon Public, it was rewarding to be in a teaching position in a number of schools, some of which I knew, and others which were new to me.

Teacher

The Mackay School
04.2006 - 12.2007

During my time at the Mackay School, I worked in first in a support role (essentially an Educational Assistant) in each class (A,B,C,D) from the third grade to the eleventh grade. I read with students, supported them in research assignments, and encouraged conversation in their language of study. In the second year I had four of my own English courses, from grade 8 to grade 11. These levels included different levels of proficiency, with the grade 10s being the most advanced cohort of their year, and the grade 11s being the cohort most in need of practice and development in English.

I conducted parent conferences in both English, and my beginner level Spanish, and participated in some of the school's community outreach initiatives/
