Care of fragile surgical patients with gastroschesis and short gut syndrome which often require surgical wound monitoring and management.
Management and maintenance of ostomies, mucous fistulas and stool refeeds.
Central Line management including blood draw and TPN administration/monitoring.
Monitoring and management of enteral feeding tubes including NG, NJ, G-tube and GJ tubes which includes insertion, medication administration, tube management and skin and site monitoring.
Providing family centered care through respect, collaboration, participation with patients and their family members and advocating on their behalf.
Working extremely well with members of a large multidisciplinary team to provide safe and exceptional care to patients and their families.
Pre and post op assessment and care of complex surgical patients including but not limited to various flaps, TRAM flaps, head and neck reconstructive surgery, skin grafts/donor sites and general surgeries.
Simple to complex dressing changes including VAC therapy which required organization and collaboration with many members of the multidisciplinary team.
Certification for maintenance and monitoring of PCA and PCEA.
Highly skilled burn care including initial resuscitation management, complex wound care involving bedside debridement and application of multiple dressings and pain management.
Arterial line monitoring and care.
Charge nurse trained with two years experience in this role.
Responsibility for triaging referrals both as an inpatient and outpatient process.
Providing families with the education they need to support and facilitate safe care and management while their child transitions to the community setting.
Use of critical thinking skills to provide telephone triage to families needing support.
Assisting other clinical areas and staff to effectively manage and troubleshoot enteral feeding tubes.
Communicating effectively with members of a multidisciplinary team to facilitate family centered care.
Adapting communication styles to provide necessary education to families including use of language line.
