- I started off as a labourer in this company that bought metals from the public, processed them and sold them. I was quickly promoted to Yard Manager based on my work ethic and safety conscious practices. I took great pride in a proactive approach to safety, efficiency and cost savings. I implemented procedures that reduced the costs of vehicle maintenance as well as WSIB premiums. This is where I first drove a large truck. We had an International truck fitted with a flatdeck and I would travel around southern Alberta to retrieve our bins (full of metal). Sadly, the recession of 2008 had an enormous effect on the raw materials industry.

When the company took on large projects, I was promoted to Supervisor and Safety Co-ordinator to ensure our staff complied with safety regulations as well as our customer's requirements. In 2013, I returned to the company to hire, supervise and co-ordinate a team of 25 laborers in the cleanup of Alberta floods.
