I took the opportunity to work with the Youth Conservation Corps in June of 2022. While employed at YCC, I worked consistent eight-hour shifts, five days a week, in the rigorous outdoors. Most of the work we did during my time there included outdoor clearing, maintaining the forest, repairing popular hiking trails, clearing overgrown forest areas prone to fire, and eliminating invasive plant species. This experience tested my physical aspect of skills. I learned how to train my mind and body for extreme outdoor work. Overall, the Youth Conservation Corps was a success and I have taken what I have learned through that program and applied it to real-life situations.
In my time at Mt. Shasta Ski Park, I worked in the position of a snowboarding instructor for intermediate students. My responsibilities/duties as a snowboarding instructor involved working with students between the ages of 5 and 65 years old, teaching them the basic starting skills of snowboarding, and contributing my skills and knowledge to push the students into confident athletes. While working there I gained and improved my interaction skills, working with people one-on-one, communicating with clarity, and leadership skills.
