  • Hourly autobody tech with bonus commissions for overproduction. During peak months I produced over $250k worth of completed repairs between me and one painter. Lots of heavy hits working with fleet vehicles along with regular customers through DRP’s .. namely AAA, Gieco and Mercury. A fair amount of frame sectioning and straightening. Lots of specialty repairs on oversized vans and SUV’s… floor replacements, rear body panels, tons of bedsides, roof skins, quarters and rockers. Dealership was eventually sold to Tesla.

  • Flat rate autobody tech averaging 80-120 hours per 36-40 hour work week. Mostly doing lighter hits at this location… rear body panel replacement, quarter panel replacement, and door skins were about the heaviest work to come through as we mostly did repairs for the used car lot at the dealership- although we did carry DPR’s with AAA and State Farm. The norm was lots of body filler work, TONS of bumper repair with the majority of panel replacement being bolt on jobs. Dealership was eventually sold to Dodge/ Chrysler and the body shop phased out.

  • I was a lone body tech at extremely busy but small mom and pop style shop in the outer Sunset District of San Francisco. I did anything and everything related to automotive repairs at this location including heavy mechanical, frame repairs, and big body hits. Also a fair amount of classic and collector car restorations came through this shop. This was a very fast paced place to work as I was the only body technician. There was me, and a painter. No prepper or detailer so I was also responsible for priming and blocking my own repairs, wet sanding and polishing, and detailing completed cars after I had just repaired them. Pay was hourly and I eventually left when the owner sold the shop to a corporate chain. This was most likely the most grueling job I’ve ever had. Long hours, hectic and lots of responsibility - I don’t think I took a single vacation the entire 7 years I was there. Despite this I’m still close friends with the retired owner.

  • Was the sole body technician for California Reflections from 2004-2010-ish. Hourly pay. Heavy hits and restoration work on classics along with regular production jobs. I’ve worked off and on with this shop in my hometown since 2001. It’s essentially where I learned auto body and it was a definite sink or swim environment. I’d say all in all I’ve worked at this location for a combined total of 10 plus years.

Pleasanton Autobody
Pleasanton
01.2002 - 09.2004
  • At the time a young autobody technician specializing in custom automotive repair and restorations along with welding/fabrication. I started out here restoring old classics, muscle cars and low riders …basically the junk nobody else was willing to work on being a flat rate shop. I did heavy metal work, heavy filler, priming, masking, prepping, painting, polishing….all of it. I was eventually moved up to regular production work with flat rate pay, I would average 60-80 hours per 32-36 hour workweek. We had several DRP’s with local insurance companies but mostly relied on walk ins for the majority of the time I was there. This is where I first learned the ins and outs of heavy production work and DRP’s. I eventually left after a falling out with the owner who was double sheeting me.
