  • Working as part of a multidisciplinary team comprised of nurses, LPNs, technicians, and unit clerks.
  • Admitting patients pre-operatively, and preparing patient for surgical procedure in a timely manner to best ensure OR schedules are not delayed (may include but not limited to: chart review, IV insertion, medication administration, teaching related to postoperative care/considerations, addressing any outstanding patient questions or concerns, arranging interpreter services if required)
  • Receiving patients from PACU; conducting a focused assessment and monitoring surgical wounds, vital signs, safety assessment, pain control, CSMT, neurovitals, IV's, foley catheters, CBI, JP drains, etc.
  • Advising patients and caregivers of proper wound management, discharge plan objectives, safe medication use, and disease management. Providing necessary support to ensure patient and caregiver understand teaching reviewed.
  • Occasionally collaborating with Surgeons and/or Anesthesiologists regarding any pre or post-operative questions/concerns
  • Documenting treatments delivered, medications and IVs administered, discharge instructions, and follow-up care for a large variety of surgical procedures (general surgery, plastics, gynecology, orthopedic, etc.)
  • Working as a team and in a timely manner to ensure patients are prepared for discharge after their minimum required stay and when discharge criteria has been met
  • Conducting phone calls to patients at least one day post-operatively to assess their experience, pain control, and any complications that may have occurred since discharge; offering guidance and support as necessary
