As a member of a single parent family, that runs both a farm and a seed lab I am no stranger to hard work and time management. I have a brother with a disability and a younger brother; we are all involved in the farm, 4-H, horseback riding, and multiple sports. I have taken on active dedicated roles on the farm and in the lab, while also helping get siblings to activities, volunteering at the vet clinic, helping process food for our family, playing on the senior basketball team at my high school, all while maintaining a over 90 average in school. I am currently the president of our 4-H club, which is helping me develop leadership skills. In order to follow my dreams of travelling my siblings and I started our own farmstand business with a social media presence.
With my busy schedule I feel it is very important to have hobbies, I love to find time to go hunting and fishing with my family. We also like to ride horses together. Homesteading is a big part of our life, we raise and process most of our food, so I have lots of experience in butchering, processing, canning, and preserving.
I have been in 4-H for 12 years and have been part of the executive for 5 years. I love how 4-H has taught me new skills through projects, how to run a meeting, how to lend a hand through our community projects, and most of all public speaking.
Basketball has been a big part of my school career, I am small for the sport which has taught me to fight hard for my dreams, to work harder, to identify my goal and drive towards it against the odds. I has taught me the importance of being a team player and commitment.
I have applied to The University of Saskatchewan to the College of Agriculture with a major in Animal Science. My long term plan is to apply for Veterinary Medicine with a specialty in large animals. I feel my upbringing has given me significant experience in this field. I have also been lucky enough to have helped a family friend, who is a large animal vet, with procedures on our animals, such as curating the bone, wound care, taking x-rays, administering medicines, to name a few. My time as a volunteer at the Associate Pet Clinic will continue to add to my experience.
