Thorough knowledge of basic and PELC nursing skills such as IV initiation, venipuncture, medication administration, NG tube insertion/management, tracheostomy care, urinary cathetarizations, etc.

Thorough knowledge of neurosurgical specific nursing care such as neurological assessments (neurovitals, modified asias, basic CN testing, etc.), management of ventric drains/ICP monitoring wires, care for acute spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury patients, etc.

In-depth understanding of looking at the "big picture" plans for patients as it relates to the charge nurse role, such as discharge planning and collaborating with all team members (PT, OT, SW, etc.; MDs/NPs; bed managers, etc)

Broad knowledge of many other medical conditions that present within our patient population or with "off-service" patients such as chronic diseases like hypertension, diabetes, COPD, etc.

Worked with a broad patient population for those requiring inpatient care in a rural setting; the patients presented with various medical conditions such as COPD exacerbations, CHF, MI (sub-acute), strokes, cancer/palliative care, and patients that were no longer safe in their home environments (such as falls risk) and were awaiting long term care beds

Worked with a team-focused model of care with fellow RNs, LPNs and CCAs/CTAs
