Hi, my name is Jade (they/she).
I am excited about a chance to become a park ranger because I have a passion for the wilderness and environmental protection as well as exemplary people skills. I grew up here in the Bay Area and have always had a fond respect of park rangers for protecting the local wildlife and the health of the open space preserves I've grown to love. I always bring a great work ethic and professional attitude to work, and when it's a job that I love, I feel like I can shine the most and do some extraordinary work that stands out and helps me grow as a person. I hope that you'll choose me to become a park ranger because I would love the opportunity to make a difference for our wild spaces and the people and animals who enjoy them.
I am currently employed at DNA lounge as a Security Staff member. My primary duty is to keep our local communities safe in a professional and respectable manner and to uphold the policies of our company. I work as part of a security team that leads with respect and kindness while perceptively observing any dangerous behavior or hazards that might hinder our customers' safety. I work with a radio in ear at all times and I am familiar with radio protocol and procedure; I use radio skills in tandem with being present and alert of my surroundings in any particular situation. I am trained in first aid and am often the first person to reach, draw our team's awareness to, and treat a customer if they are in medical need. I search bags to make sure no one is bringing anything dangerous into our venue. When conflict arises in our venue, I can effectively handle any situation that occurs by deescalating the conflict and coming to a resolution that is both fair and respectful of all parties involved. When anything serious occurs, I am trained to make official statements without conjecture about the facts of a given situation. I maintain the appearance of the club by leading with respect, making sure our venue is tidy, and making sure all safety hazards and protocols are accounted for so that all operations can run smoothly.
Since 2011, I have been a music educator both in person and online. I have provided quality music theory and skills training to all my students in a variety of different disciplines: guitar, piano, bass, drums, voice, synthesizer, and production. I have been responsible for gaining clients, scheduling lesson times, and building lesson plans that taylor to the individual needs of my students. I take on the role of a mentor for my students by making myself available to them outside of lesson time and emailing them videos and written instructions on what we've covered. I make sure that my students of any skill level feel like they are progressing at an adequate pace. Moreover, I make sure my students have all of the skills, theory, and learning resources they need to continue following their interests and passions in music. I am very pleased now to have had many of my students go on to do great things in music and to have seen them living out their music dreams as a reality.
At Twisted Thistle Apothecary, I was a front-end sales and customer service representative, also called an Herbie. I would teach our customers what people used our various herbs for so they could make informed decisions on how to use and enjoy them. I was responsible for opening and closing the stores at both San Francisco and Oakland locations, keeping our stores organized and tidy, and providing daily reports on our sales and inventory needs. I became very good at building one on one relationships with customers so they would feel welcome in our store and have a pleasant experience any time they would visit. I was proud to know that many of our customers really liked our various teas and herbs we sold and that our products were improving their daily lives. I was glad to be someone that could help people by providing a nurturing, holistic experience.
At Planted Design, I was a plant maintenance technician and a design fabricator. My primary responsibility was to go to our different clients that had planter boxes and living plant displays and make sure their plants were healthy, well cared for, and free of pests. We were responsible for many different sites all across the Bay Area that had our planter boxes, office plants, and living plant displays. I would practice careful pruning, watering, planting, propagating, and pest mitigation all to keep our plants and plant displays well maintained and looking good. My secondary responsibility at Planted Design was fabricating plant displays that would appear at local businesses to give a lush appearance of greenery for their customers.
At Plaza Gourmet I worked as a delicatessen worker and manager for a restaurant that made a variety of specialized, gourmet foods for our customers with a caring attitude and high quality customer service. I would take on a leadership role in making sure food got to our customers in a timely manner while upholding our gourmet quality and our mandated ServSafe safety standards. Being ServSafe certified, I made sure all our foods were kept to exemplary standards to keep our customers safe and happy and our foods fresh and delicious. As manager I would handle most of the inner workings of our restaurant. I would arrive early to make our specialty salads and roast our meats. I would open and close the store. I was responsible for making sure our operation was running smoothly and orderly, that our customers were happy, and I would handle money and inventory affairs at the end of the day. The skills I learned here have carried me far and I still use the leadership and culinary skills in my day to day life.
At Alta Prairie, I was an indoor horticulturist and pest management specialist for a variety of crops. I was responsible for a sizable number of plants and crops. It was my job to make sure they were healthy and productive every step of the way from propagation til harvest. Being an exclusively hydroponic farm, we would carefully monitor our nutrient reservoirs and adjust them according to a specific crop's need. At certain points in my employment I was also building hydroponic systems for our farm. I was the farm's lead pesticide management technician that learned how to effectively identify and treat a variety of different symptoms and diseases that our crops would sometimes incur. I was trained in how to abate pests with the least harmful pest management methods. I would use a variety of methods to make sure pest abatement was handled safely, effectively, and in accordance to law.
At Golden Nursery, I became a clerk for a leading plant nursery in San Mateo. I was responsible for all front-end cash handling responsibilities as well as meeting our customers with quality customer service, whether on the phone or in-person. I learned to ring up all plants by their proper names and by code and thereby, learning the basics about a lot of different garden variety plants. I took telephone orders from customers for pick up orders or for sod deliveries. I taught people the proper way to pot, water, and maintain the soil for their plants depending on what kind of plant they had. I was trained about our different plants and the kinds of micronutrients they needed to be happy. I would help our customers navigate our vast selection of plants. I made sure all of our customers who came in had a quality experience shopping at our store.
While I worked at Radio Shack as a sales associate, our priority as a store was selling phones, batteries, warranties, and electronics. I was responsible for keeping the shop clean and welcoming, and working with customers on their various electronics needs and solving their various technical problems. I learned here to meet our customers with a pleasant attitude and guide them in whatever they were there to purchase.
At 91.1 KCSM, I volunteered to be a vinyl digitization assistant in digitizing the 2nd largest vinyl jazz library in the world. I took phone calls to accept donations from pledges and I used Audacity and LP Ripper to convert all analog vinyls into a digital format. I sent thank you letters to all who pledged donations to our station.
When I worked at Alex's Cafe in The San Mateo Public Library, my first job, I learned to make a variety of caffeinated beverages and food items for customers. I spent time getting to know the clientele and memorizing their orders. I took cash and credit card payments and usually worked there alone. I was responsible for opening and closing our cafe and reporting earnings to my manager each day.
