I've owned and operated my own business for the last 12 years. I have always been the only tech and the only salesperson. My Brother, Son, and Nephews have all worked with me at some point from the beginning, but only as installers and apprentice techs, with me riding with them. I've had nobody to call upon when I don't understand something, so I've been forced to figure it out myself. I built the business organically from $68k in my first year to $2.4 million in 2023. All sales have been made by me. I'm an expert in customer service, explaining things to customers in ways they understand, while just giving them the hard truths about their situation. I manage a database of 6000 customers currently and frequently run 10-14 calls per day. I frequently sell $300k plus per month when it's hot while also running the business, managing employees, putting out customer fires, and playing marriage counselor sometimes. I work well under pressure and manage my time well.
I had an opportunity to work for an outfit in Palm Desert for two days in mid-June. I took 6 calls during that time and sold $38,000 in sales. I found the ability to sell there to be incredibly easy. Every job had single-speed equipment, horribly under ducted systems, terrible design locations, extensive conduction loss issues, lack of attic insulation, a laundry list of issues from no safety pans to mini splits condensers pointed toward the house. Flat roof homes have high static and need mini-splits for eastern and western-facing rooms. People are suffering from a lack of knowledge in the trade, and I was told numerous times that "nobody has ever mentioned that before" regarding major issues. I also noted the lack of Bosch Package Units on rooftops, and even our condo woke me many times a night when it turned on. I suspect with the right company that understands my skillset in sales, I could do $400k plus a month down there.
