- Working at LGP, I work on preparing and checking in equipment that comes back from rental. We rent everything from handheld drills up to 50,000-pound excavators. Working there, I have learned to check in and text all functions and operations of the tool or vehicle that comes back. I have used backhoes, excavators, forklifts, reach forklifts, scissor lifts, skid steers, booms, and large trucks.
- I know all the important functions of all these vehicles and the different attachments, such as concrete breakers and different types of buckets. Working there, I have learned where to look for problems with all tools and vehicles, and how to use all equipment safely.

- I worked for the City of Huntington Beach in both wastewater and water quality. I gained valuable knowledge in each role. In wastewater, I learned about various hand and air tools commonly found in most warehouses. I also learned how to properly dig a hole and the associated dangers. Additionally, I was trained on when and how to set up shoring equipment.
- I was taught how to inspect and maintain a pump station, as well as assist with flushing hundreds of sewer lines. I learned how to set up rigging for pump station rescues and how to ensure safety when working in confined spaces. Driving was a significant part of both jobs. In wastewater, I learned to operate a truck with a dump bed, drive long vehicles, and maneuver trailers.
- I also gained experience in street jobs, setting up cones and safety signs. In water quality, I learned how to collect and analyze samples. I was the driver for trips to the offsite lab, where I asked many questions to understand the process better. I also organized paperwork and kept the lab area clean. I learned a great deal about vehicle upkeep, treating the city’s vehicles as if they were my own. Throughout both positions, my supervisors were excellent mentors, teaching me valuable work skills and how to be a good employee.
