Cover Letter

It is with great enthusiasm that I submit my cover letter and resume for the opportunity to obtain a permanent position as Child and Youth Care Worker position through York Hills at Mount Albert Public school(York Region District School Board) Currently I am working as a Intervention Support Worker at YRDSB.

Through my extensive training and working with children with mental health disorders and special needs, I have acquired the skills necessary to provide children with the ability to learn coping skills, social skills, self regulation, just to name a few.  My education has trained me on the positive effects of treatment plans for children and youth such as: cognitive behavioural therapies, plans of care, behaviour support plans, applied behaviour analysis, specialized activities geared to their abilities, and life skills development.  My certifications include: American Sign Language level 103, SafeTalk,  WHMIS, Proton and Certified Congenital Deaf Blind Specialist Levels 1 and 2 and CPI.

My strengths include Having worked with children and adults with debilitating mental and physical needs for over a decade and this has equipped me with many techniques and strategies to teach children, families and clients how to feel confident in their own abilities, as well as safe and secure. My ability to provide mental health support to children and think outside of the box enables me to build a treatment plan unique to each individual. As an employee, I bring flexibility, a willingness to take on a multitude of challenges, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills that will support me in documenting each student's behavioural changes and their individual responses to interventions. It is of utmost importance to me to build rapport with the children and their families to ensure the best outcome. As a team player, I will work alongside teachers and other staff members to assist with assessing student behaviour, developing strategic plans to reinforce skill building and school success. Also implementing, assessing and modifying ongoing treatment plans. What appeals to me about the chance to join the York Region District School Board is the opportunity to enhance my skills further and to provide a positive mental health environment for children. By utilizing my extensive experience with mental health conditions; dual-diagnosis, developmental delays, acquired and congenital brain injuries, autism, deaf and/or blindness, behaviour disorders, physical disabilities and Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration; I look forward to having an interview to further discuss my qualifications, strengths and suitability for this position in further detail.
