RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Queen’s University, Biological Department

  • Undergraduate Thesis, September 2022 – May 2023
  • Supervisor: Dr. Paul Blanchfield
  • Co-Supervisor: Dr. Brian Cumming; Committee Member: Dr. Mark Ridgway
  • Used acoustic telemetry Markov models, and Bayesian statistics to analyze the difference in spawning behaviour of brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) in two different lakes (clumped vs. dispersed spawning sites). I also developed my capture-recapture hierarchal model using the “rstan” package language in R which can be applied to any spatial-explicit/capture history binary data for fish. Actively participated in lab meetings and contributed to discussions and constructive feedback for fellow peers.

Queen’s University, Biological Department

  • Animal Behaviour (BIOL 321), January 2022 – May 2022
  • Investigated whether Black-capped Chickadees (Poecile atricapillus) preference in foraging for Anthropogenic versus Natural feed was influenced by residence in rural or urban environments. Used multiple feeding stations in Kingston (On) and Thornbury (On) to collect data.

PRESENTATIONS

  • “Reproductive Behaviour of Brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) in Two Different Spawning Habitats” (Thesis presentation-lecture).
  • “Reproductive Behaviour of Brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) in Two Different Spawning Habitats” (Thesis poster).
