Electrical Power and Design Engineer with over a decade of experience in technical, managerial, and training roles in the energy and engineering sectors. Expertise in power generation, transmission, distribution, substation systems, renewable energy (especially solar), and low-voltage electrical design for buildings and infrastructure. Background in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), capacity building, and system implementation. Experience as an independent consultant for organizations like the Puntland Ministry of Energy and international organizations. Also involved in African Development Bank and World Bank-funded off-grid energy projects with the Federal Government of Somalia's Ministry of Energy and Water Resources.
As part of the Feasibility Study & Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) Studies for the Repair/Expansion of the Bosaso Power Grid, the project responsibilities focused on assessing the technical, economic, social, and environmental viability of scaling up modern energy services in both urban and rural communities in Somalia. Also included the development of preliminary designs for the associated construction works, with a strong emphasis on renewable energy integration.
As an Electrical Project Engineer for the project “Assessment Access of Gobaad Energy Company in Puntland,” I led the design of a smart grid distribution system to minimize technical losses and enhance overall efficiency. My role involved conducting comprehensive assessments of existing energy systems, gathering and analyzing data from all operational power plants, and proposing strategies to reduce current energy consumption. I also contributed to the enhancement of the distribution network infrastructure to improve electricity quality, reliability, and accessibility for households, businesses, government institutions, and social services. These efforts directly supported the reduction of system losses and strengthened the financial performance and operational efficiency of local power utilities in Puntland, Somalia.
In my role, I was responsible for preparing comprehensive lighting and power layouts, along with technical proposals tailored for commercial and residential projects. I conducted detailed electrical calculations, including transformer selection, load assessments, breaker and cable sizing, lux level analysis, voltage drop evaluations, and capacitor bank and earthing system designs. My duties also included designing lighting and illumination systems, developing single-line diagrams, and preparing Bills of Quantities (BOQs). I handled the design, installation, and troubleshooting of low-voltage systems such as CCTV, access control, and fire alarm systems, while ensuring accurate implementation by interpreting technical drawings. Throughout the project lifecycle, I reported directly to the project manager, ensuring smooth coordination and timely execution.
