Working fulltime in this Quaternary level and tertiary hospital which is also one of the largest in the province with 1102 beds. I was rotating between Maternity High Care, Cesarean Theater and the Labor Ward.
My duties included admission of patients from Admissions/Casualty who were in active phase of labor.
Maternal and fetal well-being monitoring during progress of labour, delivery and pueperial (4th stage of labour).
Also included there, was attending to, monitoring, assisting and facilitating in obstetric emergencies.
Attending to cesarean births in theater as 'the baby-catcher'; neonatal resuscitation, monitoring and providing immediate care of the neonate.
Nursing patients with complications of pregnancy (antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum) in the high-care where nurse-patient ratio is 1:2.
Liasing with the on-call obstetrician and all other members of the MDT.

Provide comprehensive, integrated and optimal nursing care as a member of the MDT according to identified patient needs based on scientific fic principles and within professional/legal framework.
