• Provided patient-focused care, programs, and services to high-risk children and youth in a 24/7 secure mental health facility with significant mental health concerns.

• Demonstrated professional commitment and clinical expertise in providing surgical-related care unique to all units’ services by adhering to UHN’s policies and unit-related guidelines including conducting health assessments, monitoring vital signs and status, drainage care, IV maintenance, glucose monitoring, NGT/G-tube care, ostomy care, foley catheterization, medication administration and other forms of nursing care

• Established understanding and application of airway management, flap monitoring, leech therapy, and incorporating psychosocial assessments to improve QOL

• Ability to adapt and use critical thinking skills in recognizing changes or decline in patient’s status and condition from baseline and providing escalation of care in order to enhance patient outcomes

• Fostered positive relationships with patients, family members and liasioned with members of the inter-disciplinary team including MDs, social work, SLP, dieticians

• Educated patients and families on discharge planning and promoting involvement in the care process

• Provided training and preceptorship to staff including: NRTs, newly hired staff, and nursing students
