iPeer2Peer Research Program: Volunteer Mentor

Mentor for young patients of Sick Kids Children’s Hospital who have been diagnosed with IBD or chronic pain. Interact with them regularly and engage in meaningful conversation that can serve as a benefit for the mentee. Provide advice about dealing with surgery, pain, and aspects of life that are affected by their health conditions. Give tips on dealing with day-to-day challenges associated with their medical situation to enhance mental well-being.
Ronald McDonald House: Volunteer

Provide entertainment for residents, prepare dining area and serve food as kitchen volunteer, receptionist duties. Interact with families and provide a supportive and empathetic environment that can relieve the constant stress of their loved one’s sickness.
Men’s Street Ministry: Volunteer

Prepare and distribute food, clothing and other necessities to the homeless/less fortunate people of Hamilton. Serve each individual’s needs on a one-to-one basis, providing a variety of services that can provide motivation to improve their quality of living. Engage in conversation about their past history, life in general, common interests and serve as a resource of support in physical and mental aspects.

Analyze and evaluate science fair projects of elementary school students. Constructively criticize their work and encourage further intuition about the fields of science they chose to create a project on. I would adjust my critique and insight based on the age of the contestant.
