Event Emergency Medical Responder

  • Collaborated with Medical Professionals to provide out of hospital care at events and venues across the GTA
  • Worked 5-12 hour shifts, as a solo responders, or in pairs and larger teams
  • I am able to recall information and exact procedures, maintain mental clarity and actively problem solve in high stress environments, like large crowds with loud music or other distractions
  • I work under medical direction, and dispense medication as per written medical directives. I am familiar with company specific indications, contraindications and treatment considerations for all of the medication I can deliver at the Emergency Medical Responder level.

Emergency Room Triage Volunteer - SJHC

  • I assist patients through the triage process at the Emergency Room in St Joseph's Health center. I am the first point of contact for many patients walking into the Emergency Room and I support staff in dealing with any problems that occur to ensure the Triage process runs smoothly.
  • I was the first high-school aged youth to be let back into volunteering in the Emergency Room after Covid 19, because of my responsibility and maturity.
  • I use my great memory and problem-solving skills to assist visitors in finding patients and give directions to patients for locations all across the hospital.
  • I coordinate wheelchairs, taxi's and housekeeping for patients and visitors on behalf of nurses. I acted as a liaison between staff and patients, bringing pertinent patient concerns, such as patients in the waiting room with deteriorating conditions, to the nurses attention.
  • I advocate for patients, and provide emotional support to those undergoing a very emotional time in the Emergency Room, successfully deescalating situations despite the intense environment

  • I volunteer alongside youth guided by First Responders and medical professionals to provide emergency medical care at events including races, street festivals and large conventions
  • In this role I lead care teams, ensuring effective communication during high stress emergency situations. I have learned how to adapt to very versatile situations and use the resources available to me to problem solve in the field
  • Through my experience training as an Emergency Medical Responder I have learned radio communication, medical terminology, medical documentation, activating and response to color contingency codes (code red, blue)

Clerical Volunteer - St Josephs Health Center

  • I volunteered as a clerical volunteer in the GI/Endoscopy unit of St Joseph's Health Center, where I helped registered patients using their online charting system, then printed out and assembled their paperwork
  • My duties also included organizing doctors schedules, answering questions by telephone and in person, and operating fax machines in coordination with in-hospital and external pharmacies
  • I used technology to overcome language barriers and communicate effectively with patients and their families
  • I deescalated emotionally charged situations and provided reassurance to upset patients and their families, helping in any way I could to make their experience more comfortable
