Worked in the Biological Sciences Department's Advanced Microscopy Facility.
This unit provides services and resources for researchers to prepare their tissue samples for imaging under various microscopes.
The facility contains brightfield and widefield microscopes, fluorescence microscopes, a Transmission Electron Microscope, and a Scanning Electron Microscope.
Duties included preparing research samples using the requested techniques, imaging the samples using the above microscopes, updating and maintaining safety information needed for the facility to function and various other duties.
Worked with various organisms and tissues, including plant tissues including canola stems and lingonberry roots, human tissues such as heart tissue, and model organisms including zebrafish and mice.

Responsible for preparing the media for Drosophila (fruit fly) researchers and the Biological Sciences Department lab courses require.
Includes preparing and maintaining the equipment and glassware required to make the media.
Responsible for maintaining the insectary that houses all the insects and arachnids used for the Biological Sciences Department's Entomology lab courses.
Responsible for establishing a new colony of medusa sexta (tobacco hornworm) within the insectary. This involves preparing the media for the caterpillars and monitoring their growth and development.
These duties are carried out without direct supervision, and any communication with the supervisors is by email.

Aliquoting all the solutions used in the various lab exercises into microtubes.
Making all the agarose gels required for the PCR labs.
Assisting pouring of the media using aseptic technique and various other duties as required.
