ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training)
· Provides comprehensive training in recognizing and assessing suicide risk, including identifying warning signs and understanding the psychological factors contributing to suicidal ideation.
· Equips participants with practical intervention skills and strategies to engage with individuals at risk, including how to conduct safe and supportive conversations and develop a safety plan.
· Offers hands-on practice through role-playing scenarios to build confidence and competence in applying intervention techniques and managing crisis situations effectively.
Supporting Survivors of Sexual Violence: A Nova Scotia Resource
· 7 modules, online certification program
· Topics include defining sexual violence, responding to disclosure, choices following sexual violence, sexual consent, enhancing the well-being of support people, Indigenous perspectives, and African Nova Scotian perspectives.
Mental Health Commission of Canada: Understanding Stigma
· 3 credit hour course
· Topics include raising awareness about stigma, the impacts of stigma, and challenging stigma and discrimination.
-Engaged in Bringing Baby Home Educator Training through the Gottman Institute. Designed to support couples as they transition to parenthood. This training is particularly focused on helping couples maintain a healthy relationship and navigate the challenges of early parenthood.
-Planning to pursue training in Implications Counselling with a focus on fertility and reproductive health, supported by the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society’s Counselling Special Interest Group (CFAS-CSIG). Implications Counselling within the realm of fertility and reproductive health focuses on helping individuals and couples understand and navigate the emotional and psychological impacts of reproductive decisions and challenges. This type of counselling is essential for addressing the multifaceted issues that arise in the context of fertility treatments, genetic testing, and family planning.
Kids Help Phone-Crisis Responder
· Crisis responder via 24/7 texting service.
· Kids Help Phone requires the completion of a six-week training period that educates volunteers on how to support texters by helping to bring them from a hot moment to a cooler, more calm state of mind.
· In this capacity I have learned how to appropriately support individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, abuse, bullying, etc.
