Work History

Volunteer

Kevin Yang
North Vancouver, British Columbia
09.2022 - Current
  • With my excellent flute skills, I served as a teacher's assistant, teaching younger flute players. I volunteered every Tuesday and Thursday. I taught players from beginners to intermediate players. I felt a sense of accomplishment and pride as they improved.
  • Teaching younger students taught me patience and communication skills. Also, after teaching students in place of the teacher, I gained the teacher's trust and became a source of pride. Teaching younger students allowed me to demonstrate leadership skills.

Volunteer

North Vancouver, British Columbia

  • I volunteered for three hours every Friday. My role was to clean the kitchen and organize the refrigerator. I learned about many different types of groceries by carrying and organizing new groceries every week. I also learned how to cook simple dishes.
  • I had to deal with elderly people who had difficulty moving. At first, it was uncomfortable to do volunteer work, but I was able to learn crisis management skills through overcoming many difficulties. Since I had to do volunteer work targeting elderly people, I was able to learn about kind smiles and behaviours. Also, I realized that kind hearts contribute greatly to society.

Volunteer

  • Once a month, on Saturdays, I meet with my team to pick up trash in parks in Vancouver. By picking up trash for three hours, I was able to learn social skills by communicating and cooperating with my teammates.
  • I learned how to have a poker face while meeting people. I learned how to react to what people say, how to laugh, how to continue a conversation, and how to improve my speaking skills.
  • I also learned a great sense of accomplishment and satisfaction while picking up trash.
