Mentoring activities

  • (2020/9-2021/3) The Research Experiences (REX) mentorship program, University of British Columbia:

I served as a mentor in UBC's 2020-2021 REX Program and dedicated seven months (weekly meeting from Sept to Mar 2020) to mentoring two undergraduate students in systematic review methodology. Their project results were presented at the Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Research Conference (MURC), one of Canada's largest undergraduate research conferences. As a testament to my strong and successful mentorship, I was honored to receive one of the five REX Discipline Specific Project Awards under Land and Food Systems and Forestry. The award recognized my guidance and support provided to the REX students throughout their project titled 'Examining the impact of whole dietary approaches on type 2 diabetes.' Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, 137 REX groups, comprising nearly 400 undergraduate students, successfully completed their REX projects online and participated in this competition

  • (2020/1) University of British Columbia: I mentored a master student on literature search and PRISMA diagram.
  • (2018-2019)Tehran University of Medical Sciences: I mentored two MSc students through every step of their projects, which included grant writing, literature searching, and creating PRISMA diagrams. I guided them in quality appraisal using Cochrane and other standard tools, as well as advanced statistical techniques such as random-effects modeling for quantitative analysis, including dose-response and meta-regression. Additionally, I assisted with data preparation and variable construction for analysis, such as changing reference categories and calculating mean changes. I supported the students in data interpretation and manuscript preparation, ensuring adherence to reporting checklists. The resulting article has been published in:

  • As the Director of the Students' Scientific Research Center at the School of Nutritional Sciences and Dietetics, I organized a total of 12 workshops as part of my activities. These workshops covered a range of topics, including SPSS, STATA (in three parts), Medical Nutrition Therapy for diabetic patients, Medline search techniques, Scientific Research Article Writing, Data Extraction, Advanced search in bibliographic databases, Ketogenic diet, and Women's essential supplements. By doubling the number of workshops, I made a significant contribution to the continuous education and professional development of students. The increased learning opportunities resulted in greater student engagement in research, as evidenced by the significant number of grants awarded to students during the period of 2017-2019 (a total of 31 grants).
  • (2019) Unit leader- 25th SSRC Annual Meetings, TUMS
  • This is an annual university-wide meeting held at Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS). The meeting is attended by the University Dean, the Head of TUMS-SSRC, and the respective Heads of SSRC from each school. The Directors of SSRC from all schools within TUMS lead their teams in participating in this event. As part of the event, there is an exhibition where each school is allocated a booth to showcase their annual achievements. In my role as the Director of SSRC at the School of Nutritional Sciences and Dietetics, I was responsible for preparing the annual report and other communications highlighting our team's accomplishments to be presented at this exhibition. Through delivering presentations to diverse audiences, I was able to enhance my presentation skills and develop leadership abilities. These activities also helped in expanding the outreach of SSRC.
  • (2018) Unit leader-24th SSRC Annual Meetings, TUMS
  • (2016-2019) Organizer- Dietetic Association, SSRC, TUMS
  • In 2016, as a member of the Students' Scientific Research Center (SSRC), I voluntarily attended the weekly meetings of the Dietetic Association. However, from 2017 to 2019, as the Director of SSRC at my school, I actively participated in organizing the meetings of this Association. Through these meetings, students had the opportunity to expand their knowledge on various topics, including different types of dietary patterns such as the paleo diet, ketogenic diet, Mediterranean dietary pattern, and more. Additionally, discussions covered enteral and parenteral nutrition, as well as the process of planning diets for various non-communicable diseases. The students in this Association were also involved in adapting dietary guidelines to the specific context of Iran.
  • (2016-2017) Coordinator-Coordinating general activities at the SSRC
  • During my first year at the Students' Scientific Research Center (SSRC) of the School of Nutritional Sciences and Dietetics, I engaged in various volunteering tasks. These included activities such as advertising workshops, publishing news about student activities on different media platforms, and distributing workshop evaluation forms, among others.
  • (2016) Volunteer -Volunteering at the 17th Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition Society of Asia (PENSA)
  • The Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition Society of Asia (PENSA) is a society dedicated to Asian physicians and personnel involved in nutritional support. Established in 1995 with the participation of 10 countries, PENSA aims to facilitate the exchange of clinical experiences and scientific knowledge in the field of clinical nutrition. Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) hosted the 17th PENSA Congress, which provided a valuable platform for physicians, nutritionists, and medical professionals to connect and share their advancements in medical nutrition management and therapy. Additionally, a special panel was dedicated to graduate and undergraduate students, offering scientific opportunities for young researchers. Although I was not a member of the conference organizing committee, being a member of TUMS and the student society, I volunteered my time to distribute conference flyers, send invitation letters, and assist in organizing conference halls.
