Work Experience Details

  • Working in three different long term care homes and serving the food to residents based on their diet and preferences.
  • Serving the food to the residents following safety and hygienic regulations by washing hands, using hairnet and hand gloves.
  • Stocking the snack cart with straws, sugar packets, napkins and preparing diet and regular crystal juices and filling the cart with 2% milk, chocolate milk, lactose free milk, coffee, tea and hot water and thickened juice
  • Noting down the temperature of the freezers, dish machines to avoid any spoilage
  • Taking the temperature of the food by using thermometers and noting in the logs and using the proper scoops by following the therapeutic menu.
  • Serving the food according to resident diet textures by following the Kardex and their therapeutic diets and allergies
  • Serving the breakfast, lunch and dinner by giving the residents two healthy choices in food, vegetables, snacks, salad as well as the desserts
  • Working in making nutrition supplements such a fortified milk based on the fluid textures of the residents which are regular, nectar thickened and honey thickened and working in the stickers of the snacks
  • Washing all the dishes and cutlery following safety regulations and proper usage of the different chemicals
  • Washing and sanitizing all areas in servery and dining areas according to cleaning schedule

Spencer House, Orillia, Ontario, 

  • Participated in the menu planning for the fall and winter and I learned how to print the recipes from webtrition
  • Food handling and preparation in compliance with relevant legislation and best practices by working with the cook I learned preparation of food and using the robots and machines and cooking the food by following the recipe book.
  • , Following the recipe by using the technology such as meal suite and synergy in the kitchen.
  • By shadowing the manager, checking all the freezers and storage areas and noting down and what to order, I have learned to order the food from the sysco and ordered the food by utilizing the budget properly.
  • Attended the care conference of the residents that is being held quarterly and annually and giving the information to the family by using Point click care where all the health and diet information of the residents we can find there.
  • Did resident move in and asked the questions based on the diet assessment paper about the diet preferences, textures, likes and dislikes etc and noting down the information on the bridge.
  • Did service promotion along with my manager we have taken the feedback from the residents about taste, temperature and presentation of the food
