· Maintains positive, collaborative, and open communication with residents, families and the Health and Wellness Team in a manner that promotes good community relations and ensures optimum health and wellness for our Residents.
· To oversee the Human Resources activity of LPNs and HCAs that includes maintaining appropriate staffing levels to ensure the safety of Residents and Staff while striving to meet AHS contractual requirements for the provision of hours worked by LPNs and HCAs.
· Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (such as AHS Continuing Care Health Standards and infection control programs)
· Ensure professional, licensed, and accredited standards are maintained by all healthcare staff.
· Resolves issues, concerns and complain.
· Oversees the acceptability/compatibility of Residents, including those through the DSL and SL4D program through Alberta Health Services.
· Participate in advocacy group meetings.
· Monitors the resident’s health status on an ongoing basis and initiates appropriate nursing interventions.
· Assesses need for referral to physician and implements physician’s orders.
· Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by Physician and assess the effectiveness.
· Performs basic nursing skills as listed in Standards of Practice.
· Maintains accurate and complete records of nursing observations and care.
· Completes Quarterly Summaries and reassessments in accordance with established policy and procedures.
· Reports any alleged incidents of abuse to DOC/Administrator immediately.
· Documents all incidents/accidents, completes appropriate forms, and ensures that corrective action is taken.
· Performs nursing duties required for residents during admission, discharge and/or transfer to another facility.
· Plans, directs, and monitors the work of nursing and personal care staff, and offers feedback for performance evaluations of other Nursing Staff.
· Acts as a resource person, facilitator, and leader for the LPN and PSW’s in the facility.
· Monitors the safekeeping of stock medications and supplies.
· Completes audits/inventories as requested.
· Preparing subject material for presentation to students as per curriculum.
· Teaching students by using a systemic plan of lectures, discussion along with AV aids.
· Preparing and administering tests to evaluate the progress and individual needs of students.
· Organizing extra- curricular activities for all-round development of students.
