Canadian Nuclear Laboratories - ANMRC

  • Advanced Nuclear Materials Research Centre (ANMRC), Canada’s newest and biggest nuclear laboratory. In the north end of the building, which will house the nuclear operations, including 12 hot cells and a number of glovebox facilities, we completed the formation of pits that will be used for in-cell fuel / material storage, an active liquid waste vault, and the Nuclear Assurance Corporation Legal Weight Truck Flask pit to facilitate the flask’s adapter change-out.

In the south end, which will house Class “B” laboratories and flexible collaboration spaces, we have installed sub-foundation elements consisting of granular, concrete, rebar, storm and sewar piping, and rock anchors. Structural steel and mass timber will begin erection in July.

The ANMRC is part of a $1.3 billion investment from AECL on behalf of the Government of Canada for new and renewed science and support infrastructure and is a key element in the revitalization of the Chalk River campus.
