Has a job description ever excited you before? Me neither, until today. As I was reading the description for the Coordinator, Community Sport Special Projects (Freelance) - MLSE Foundation position, it felt like everything I've been doing over the past 20+ years was in preparation for this very position. I couldn't have written a more fitting position. I kid you not. I have lived at the intersection of sports, youth development and community engagement for over two decades. As the father of an autistic teen, I saw firsthand how sports plays a critical role in the development of both neurotypical and neurodivergent individuals. Sports helped my son develop emotionally, physically, and mentally all while creating the space to express himself and find belonging within the community. How could I not dedicate my life to this work? I spent the last 14 years as a mentor, coach, spokesperson, and major contributor for the Brampton Special Olympics. I organized the Special Olympics Ontario Provincial Summer Games in Peel. My resume goes into detail but the various athletic positions I've held have allowed me to hone my expertise in working with youth, building connections within community networks, and using sport as a tool for positive youth development. Respectfully, I'm not another meathead sports fanatic trying to land a sports job. While sports and sports management has been a constant focus in my life, I have acquired years of corporate experience in the field of communications and team management through my tenure at Rogers Communications. My resume summarizes my diversified background and highlights some of the many qualities for which you are looking. You will note that all of my positions have called upon my ability to engage the community, lead and organize stakeholders all while functioning as part of a team. You can be confident, therefore, that the skills that I have developed through corporate and community experiences will be used to perform effectively as an integral member of MLSE. My success in the past has stemmed from my tenacious commitment to excellence, my ability to connect, strategize and communicate in a way that galvanizes communities. I lead firmly with heart. I keep high standards for my work and am known for my ability to follow through. I respond well to a challenge and enjoy the opportunity to reap the rewards of hard work and dedication. Dare I say, I'm the last of a dying breed. Above all, I'm passionate about this work. I truly hope to hear from you.
