Incredibly driven to keep developing these skills as a working student nurse and support safe, considerate, and cooperative patient care.
Throughout my BSN program, I have completed multiple clinical rotations across medical-surgical and rehabilitation settings, progressively building a strong foundation of nursing knowledge, technical skills, and professional practice.
Term 1 and Clinical Consolidation at Holy Family Hospital: Completed head-to-toe assessments, monitored vital signs, and assisted with ADLs to acquire essential bedside nursing skills. While giving direct patient care, I became proficient in CERNER charting, patient safety procedures, and effective communication.
Term 2 at Holy Family Hospital: The scope of practice was broadened to incorporate the safe administration of medications through various routes, including oral, subcutaneous, topical, ophthalmic, otic, and inhaled. Simple dressings were applied using wound care principles, and patient education was strengthened to encourage self-management.
Term 2 Clinical Consolidation – UBC CAMU Hospital: Advanced clinical skills in managing PEG tubes for nutrition and care, as well as providing complex wound care using aseptic technique. Improved flexibility and critical thinking skills as a result of providing care for patients with a range of care requirements and higher acuity.
Term 3: Eagle Ridge Hospital (West 2A): Acquired knowledge of IV therapy, including the administration of IV medications and primary and secondary infusions. Performed in-and-out and Foley catheter insertions and managed a variety of surgical drains. Became familiar with the Meditech Expanse system.
