Provide oversight and direction of the daily activities and workload of personnel. Completion of probationary and annual performance reviews. Sole point-of-contact for CHP communications centers records requests. In depth review of all staff work including correspondence and memorandums. Prepare and submit required reports as deemed necessary by Executive Management. Provide training to personnel on records requests procedures and use of software/hardware. Course/program developer and coordinator for programs and online/on-ground courses under Organizational Development Section (ODS) purview. Direct oversight for all functions of program/course development including establishing and facilitating working groups; providing recommendations on program deficiencies; tracking compliance with mandates, including, but not limited to, the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training and California. Serves as administrative lead for program and course respective SharePoint sites, intranet/Internet sites, and/or databases. Serves as subject matter expert on courses and programs within ODS purview. Independently manages various project assigned by the ODS commander or sergeant and performs complex evaluation and analysis of project requirements to ensure adherence to departmental policy. Establishes and maintains accountability through monitoring project tracking logs and suspense files.
As a PSD assigned to CCSS I serve as an instructor for the Communications Training Program (CTP). My duties include providing classroom instruction for the Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Course (PSDBC) Module A and Module B, monitoring trainee performance, preparing daily performance evaluations, and special projects as assigned. I also conduct research and analysis of new training materials, training methods, the effectiveness of the CTP, incumbent and newly hired PSD training needs, and departmental retention. I assist with the development and revision of agency specific and POST curriculum, CTP performance objectives, and performance standards. I provide facilitation and/or instruction for the Communications Training Officer Course (CTO), departmental training, and other various Peace Officer and Standards Training (POST) courses. In the absence of a Public Safety Dispatch Supervisor I (PSDSI), I have served as the Public Safety Dispatcher In Charge (PSDIC) those duties include; providing direction and guidance to CTP instructional staff, reviewing daily performance evaluations, and ensuring the daily operations of the CTP are in compliance with departmental and area policies and procedures.
As a PSD assigned to Sacramento Communications Center my duties included operating CHP radio and telephone consoles and other dispatch related computer equipment to receive, transmit, and record information. Dispatching and coordinating departmental personnel, emergency services, and other resources. Screening and processing emergency/non-emergency calls from various departmental personnel, public, media and allied agencies. Querying specialized law enforcement databases for information and disseminating the information to the appropriate departmental personnel, allied agencies and also completing various law enforcement reports and records. In addition to my regular duties I served as a CTO. My duties included training of newly hired PSDs, preparing trainee evaluations, providing verbal and written feedback on a trainee's performance, making recommendations on trainee advancement and/or remediation, assessing the trainee's needs and applying different techniques to assist the trainee in meeting performance standards. In the absence of a PSDSI, I served as PSDIC. Those duties included monitoring emergency or unusual incidents, making necessary notifications, and overseeing the operations of the Communications Center.
