Developed valuable skills in fast-paced retail environment, including customer service and cash handling. Adaptable and quick to learn, ready to transition into new field that values efficiency and customer interaction. Focused on applying strong multitasking and problem-solving abilities to new opportunities.
The job consisted of data entry and filing, both online (Zoho) and paper, various accounting related tasks (such as bank reconciliation and expense management) and some small organizational jobs around the office.
Greeted customers, helping them find products, answering their questions about the art or artists, processing payments, wrapping purchases and bagging their items. I was frequently put in charge of managing the cafe side of the store and the gallery side at the same time, so I had to be completely attentive and organized. I worked both opening and closing shifts on this side as well, unlocking the store, turning lights on, putting out signs and making sure that everything was in order for the day (with the reverse process for closing) I did a variety of paperwork, relating to bringing new art into the store, helping artists decide on retail prices and helping them fill out and sign consignment forms.
I hung paintings and priced, stocked and restocked art being brought into the store (ceramics, paintings, soaps, jewelry, etc)
I taught both hand building ceramic and stained glass courses, which were about 3-4 hours long and usually had about 6 to 10 people at a time, but occasionally up to 12.
I set up and tore down classes, started the classes with a presentation and demonstration of the respectable art form, provided direction and instruction to students and gave hands on help when needed.
Finally, I worked as an artist while on the clock, creating functional and decorative ceramics, stained glass and jewelry.
I was responsible for taking orders and tending to customers, being friendly, engaging and helpful, and ultimately ensuring that everything was satisfactory. I made sure the kitchen and seating area were clean and orderly at all times, and that all daily tasks were completed. I worked both opening and closing shifts, which consisted of unlocking the store, turning lights and equipment on, taking signs out, taking fridge and freezer temperatures and checking + restocking inventory throughout the cafe. I did lots of preparatory baking and cooking for the cafe - assorted pastries and muffins, corn and flour tortillas, soups, pulled pork and chicken. I also made sandwiches, tacos and waffles throughout the work day, as ordered. I promptly made a variety of drinks, both hot and iced, espresso based and otherwise (smoothies, italian sodas, teas, steamers, etc)
I helped with processing applications, training new hires and delegating jobs as necessary.
