Summary

I am a trained, certified, and experienced French-English-French translator with 25 years of translation, revision, editing, and conference interpreting experience under my belt; most of which experience I have acquired working for the Canadian Federal Government in Ottawa. I hold a Joint BA in French and English; an MA in translation (English/French) with 1st Class Honors (graduating top of my class) from the Advanced School of Translators and Interpreters, Buea, Cameroon. After teaching English and French in United States high schools for many years, while also translating on a freelance basis for several international organizations, including UNDP, WHO Pax Christi International, and UNEP; I moved to Canada in 2009, where I’ve done translation work for both the private and public sectors and in all fields imaginable. During my time in Ottawa, I have earned another MA in International Affairs (International Organizations and Global Public Policy) at the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs, Carleton University; and I’ve wrapped up course work for a PhD program in Public Administration at the University of Ottawa. I have also completed training as Conference Interpreter (English/French) at Glendon College, York University in Toronto. Currently, I’m pursuing a Master of Science degree in Aging and Health at Queen’s University in Kingston, ON. I am highly experienced in the use of translation tools such as Termium, Antidote, Fusion, etc.; and I have demonstrated proficiency with Computer Assisted Translation software such as SDL Trados Studio, MemoQ, Wordfast, SmartCAT, OmegaT, MultiTerm, and Fusion. I pride myself as having solid research skills (thanks to all the graduate school work I have done all these years). I am thorough, meticulous, and detail-oriented, and I exercise sound judgment, especially when it comes to technical translation. I have a track record of exhibiting strong analytical skills and an incessant desire to learn. I have a wealth of experience in proofreading, revising, and editing final translated texts to ensure that terms and terminology remain consistent across the translation. Daily at work, I edit tons of texts translated by other translators; I research and continuously update our in-house translation memory; I liaise with coworkers to discuss translation requirements and harmonize terminology; I consult with clients, source-text authors and management when translating specialized/technical documents to ensure that the source-text message, spirit, tone, style, and intention are captured as faithfully and as accurately as possible.
