Ethan Gardner

• Provided emergency services to the town of Diamond Valley, ranging from fire suppression, vehicle stabilization, medical co-response/first response.
• Assisting and hosting training events and exercises, advocating and partaking in recruit and firefighter development, applying and partaking in additional courses when available, furthering skill basis.
• Managing and coordinating recruitment, retention and public education portfolio, organizing and hosting candidate interviews, organizing and hosting recruitment events, coordinating fitness testing for recruits, maintaining and receiving applications and required documents
• Hosting and coordinating public engagement events, working with community groups to partake and be present for events, communicating with public members about organization, coordinating with fire educators on developing education events, organizing and building fire prevention week, managing members assigned to my portfolio to distribute and create exceptional public relations.
• Attend and partake in officer meetings, present and be approachable for all members to communicate with, organize and manage members when duties or roles are assigned to my resposnsibility.

• Roles of UTT in Alberta include; knowing voltages of over head lines and safe working distances allowed around powerlines as well as educating newer members of utility crews of powerline awareness. Foreman role consisted of developing safe work plan on various sites throughout day, ensuring equipment/vehicles were thoroughly inspected and reported for defects/hazards to immediate supervisor, ability to problem solve and ask for direction where needed, train new crew members to conduct safe work practices as well as prune/remove and clear trees from overhead wires and stressful circumstances (I.E: Over houses, expensive vehicles, uprooted or damaged trees in high public traffic areas, responding to emergency weather/damage events where tree poses risks to human life) also required to work hand in hand with supervisor to better develop skills and abilities to further versatility in operations.
• In my experience i have faced several challenging circumstances where it has required me to adapt to overcome the event or merely seek advice/guidance from my superiors. I have trained several young/upcoming foreman to be in roles such as mine.

• Role includes traffic control, assisting AHS EMS in medical events (I.E: Medical first response, Lift assist.) Landing stars in various environments, fire related events (I.E: Grass/wildland fires, structure fires, vehicle fires.) as well as showing up for designated training nights. Working closely with training officers and captains to further ability on fire grounds. Recruits spend the first year learning and watching senior firefighters operate and been hands-on in various calls, establishing abilities within team as team member as well as knowing when to acknowledge what's beyond their scope. As well continue to dedicate fair amount of time and effort to the roles as firefighters within the community including fire prevention education, public events and open houses. Recruitment team assist in furthering retention and hiring for department with recruiting officer, coordinate recruiting events and public open houses as well as assist in getting new-hires oriented with dept. procedures and training.

Responsible for laying out site markers/cut lines, preforming tool maintenance on equipment being used through out the day, keeping site safe/clean and working in small teams to accomplish tasks. Relied on ability to work independently as well as teamwork skills mixed together. Crew members developed safe work plans as well as work operation plans to accomplish task productively and establish rolls within team.
