NGO Volunteer

Ifre Volunteers
Nepal
05.2024 - 11.2024
  • As a volunteer in the General Medicine program, I'll have hands-on tasks that truly matter for patients and the medical team. My responsibilities include helping organize medical records, assisting doctors during routine check-ups, and taking vital signs like blood pressure and temperature. I will also be involved in updating patient histories or providing support during simple in-office procedures. The role is crucial in ensuring smooth operations in the medical setting. This program offers the chance to learn practical skills, gain insights into general medicine practices, and take pride in making a positive impact on people's lives.
  • I will be teaching English to young Buddhist monks between the ages of 5-17 with the assistance of a Lopon, or Buddhist master. I expect to conduct 3-4 classes per day, each about an hour long. I will also organize fun extracurricular activities like singing, indoor games, dancing, drawing, etc. Mornings and late evenings will be free, which is the perfect chance to witness monastery rituals and participate in meditation and prayer ceremonies.
  • Volunteering in a Buddhist monastery Nepal is an amazing chance to immerse myself in the Buddhist culture and learn and grow spiritually. By teaching English to the young monks, I hope to enrich their lives and give them the tools they need to spread their message of peace and acceptance to the world.

Mentor, At-Risk Youth

Everton In The Community
England, UK
05.2018 - 09.2018

Designed for 16-17 year olds, NCS is a youth programme that runs every summer and autumn, during school holidays. The experience is all about emboldening young people, by giving them the buzz of being an adult (without all the responsibilities). On NCS, participants live away from home and get a taste for independence. They mix with a new crowd of people and take on exciting challenges together. The experience helps young people to develop skills that will set them up for life after school.

Participants then get a chance to use these new-found skills, by tackling a passion project of their choosing. NCS is dedicated to providing a platform for young people where they can speak up, get their voice heard and tackle real-world issues close to home. The experience might last just a few weeks, but the impact? That lasts a lot longer. Since day one, in 2011, nearly 600,000 young people have taken part in NCS, completing over 14.5 million hours of community action, and gaining priceless life experiences.

  • Reduced instances of negative behavior by teaching conflict resolution strategies and promoting healthy communication habits.
  • Boosted self-esteem for at-risk youth through consistent support, encouragement, and positive reinforcement.
  • Fostered a sense of community within the program by organizing group outings, events, and team-building exercises.
  • Increased overall academic performance by providing tutoring sessions tailored to individual learning styles.
  • Inspired personal growth by helping mentees set achievable goals and providing guidance on how to reach them.
  • Assisted mentees in developing essential life skills like budgeting, time management, problem-solving, and effective communication techniques.
