I have been policing with the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) since 1997. Patrol established a strong foundation, providing me with exposure and competency to the full range of policing calls. From there, my interests and skill sets led me to appointments in areas that are specifically designed to provide support services and positive outcomes for the vulnerable. I have worked in various specialty units focusing on mental health supports (PACT), the protection of children (Zebra Centre), and in an area providing students and staff with a safe and caring learning environment (SRO Unit). Collaborative work has been a constant throughout my career. I have cherished my working relationships with valued partners across many organizations. I've honed my interviewing skills through years of interview experience with victims, witnesses, suspects, or accused, and in my current post, interviewing those who seek a career in policing. I've brought innovation to the EPS and the citizens and visitors to Edmonton. My experience in project work included frequent stakeholder consultations, updates to project owners, and presentations. These innovations remain in place today. I welcome and enjoy public speaking and presenting. I've spoken to an audience of hundreds at conferences, numerous youth groups, committee members, leadership councils, funders, and recruit classes. These have been done as an educator, mentor, leader, or inspirer. I've met and spoken with groups that harbor apprehensions with the police, and have done so with grace, patience, kindness, and a trauma-informed approach. I've been an investigator, a supervisor, and an administrator. And now, I'm excited to bring my best to the University of Alberta.
I have also experienced short-term secondments in Beats, VICE, and the Elder Abuse Unit.
Above all else, I'm a family guy I married my university sweetheart, and we've raised two children who are thriving U of A students! My daughter is in her fourth year of nursing, and my son is in his second year of engineering I'm addicted to travel, and I've been fortunate to do it extensively Poland and Japan have been recent favorites I am a 'foodie' and enjoy experiencing all cuisines It can be at a Michelin rated restaurant, or better yet, a local 'hole in the wall' Thankfully, my love of sport provides a nice counterbalance to my love of food Although my long jogs through the river valley burn a bunch of those calories, I'd much rather play hockey, hit different golf courses, or pass the hours on a pickleball court
I am very thankful that I've been considered for this position with the U of A I've loved my time with the EPS, but this is a rare opportunity to work for an institution that I want to serve, alongside familiar colleagues who share my goals and values I have the energy, personality, skills, and smarts to contribute positively to your team Please let me know if I can supplement this application with a list of references Thank you
