As an orthodontic assistant, my responsibilities include attending to patients and their different appointment types, and ensuring that the patients are receiving the best care and have a smooth and informative appointment. Along with detailed and accurate note charting and practicing HIPPA compliance.
Retie appointments which include wire changes, placement of ties, placing coils, steel ties and placement of bite turbos, teaching patients how to wear their elastics and home correctly , ect.
Cementing appliance appointments, like Rapid palate expanders, E-arch's, LLHA's, Nance, Herbst, Pendex, distal jet, Haltermans, facemask, and adjusting them if needed. Along with giving parents and patient post op instructions for these appliances for use and care on how to maintain them clean.
Record appointments also include taking full records (photos, iTero's , 3shape scans, panoramic, and cephalometric X-rays). Ensuring they meet quality standards.
Invisalign and Angel aligners appointments, bonding attachments, and bonding any missing attachments as needing. Confirming that the patient is well informed of their responsibility with compliance and their use of chewies.
Bonding appointments , having tray set ups ready and having patient ready and prepped for doctor to come over and place brackets. Have patient etched and ready with brackets already on for doctor to only align them to their ideal position when needed. Also indirect bonding with DIBS tray. Educated patients and parents on oral hygiene practices specific to orthodontic care, and proper post op instructions
As a back office coordinator and ortho lead, my role calls for a level of proffesionalism in where I have that division with my coworkers so I be respected but easily approachable for any help or guidance needed. Being that person for the office that has the answers and a good attitude towards anything that comes my way. Having those hard conversations with team members, doctors or parent/ patients. Guiding doctor to where they are needed throughout the day to help the flow of appointments

Keeping track of retainer and appliance orders is a crucial task since we do have multiple locations and need to make sure they are being ordered and taken to the correct offices in a timely matter.
