March 25, 2025

With the highest respect and gratitude, we proudly recognize Dustyn Sousa for an extraordinary act of heroism and bravery. On December 31, 2024, Dustyn witnessed a major vehicle collision on South Main Street, where a vehicle drove into and over the new roundabout. The vehicle went airborne before crashing and catching fire. Upon impact, the driver was unresponsive and trapped inside.

Without hesitation, Dustyn moved into action breaking the vehicle's window, cutting the driver's seat belt, and attempting to open the door, which was jammed. As the flames grew, time was running out. Demonstrating exceptional courage, Dustyn pulled the driver through the window, dragging her to safety, and ensuring her survival despite the dangerous and chaotic scene. In a moment when every second counted, Dustyn displayed bravery, selflessness, and a willingness to risk personal safety to save another's life; actions that exemplify true heroism. For this incredible act of courage, we proudly present Dustyn with the Citizen Award, honoring his unwavering bravery and dedication to the well-being of others

Mr. Sousa is conferred the Citizens Award for distinguishing himself with incredible bravery while assisting the Red Bluff Police Department and the community while performing an act under emergency conditions, that resulted in directly sustaining human life.
