  • CONSULTANT IN INFECTIOUS DISEASES HOSPITAL LABORATORY (Since July, 1985)
  • Supervising the parasitological work like, stool examination for intestinal parasites by wet mount, concentration methods, permanent staining by trichrome stain and special staining for Cryptosporidium species, etc. Diagnosis of blood and tissue parasites and confirmation of malaria and filaria species.
  • Introduced antigen-capture method for the detection of Plasmodium falciparum and Wuchereria bancrofti by immunochromatographic test (ICT), a new technique, very specific and sensitive.
  • Introduced sensitivity test to assess the resistant strain of Plasmodium falciparum against different anti-malarial drugs.
  • Receiving malaria slides from different private laboratories and hospitals for confirmation.
  • Organizing yearly advanced training course for laboratory technicians working in the ministry of health hospitals in parasitology.

Specialization in Malaria Work

Preparation of thick and thin films for blood parasites and staining with different stains. Detection of antimalarial antibody using fluorescent antibody test. In-vitro assessment of the sensitivity of Plasmodium falciparum against antimalarials like, chloroquine, mefloquine, fansidar and quinine. Introduction of QBC Blood Parasite Detection method, a new technique, for the detection of malaria in Malaria Laboratory. Introduction of molecular biological methods like, DNA probe and Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the detection of P. falciparum and P. vivax. Antigen-capture methods like, ICT-Falciparum, Quorum test, and Parasight-F test for the detection of P. falciparum are also introduced in Malaria Laboratory and Infectious Diseases Hospital Laboratory. Evaluated several rapid diagnostic tests to detect malaria and filarial in malaria laboratory.

Research Experience also includes

  • Cultivation of parasites (Entamoeba histolytica, Plasmodium falciparum. Plasmodium berghei and Leishmania tropica) in liquid and semisolid media. Preparation of antigens from parasites. Isolation, purification and characterization of immunoglobulins by physical, chemical and immunological methods. Humoral and cell-mediated immunological techniques like, ELISA, IHA, FAT, Electrophoresis, Radioimmunoassay, Skin Hypersensitivity Reaction, Migration Inhibition Reaction and Skin Reactive Factor Assay.
  • It also includes the separation of T & B lymphocytes from peripheral blood, spleen, and bone marrow by different techniques. Identification and characterization of T & B lymphocytes by rosette formation and immunofluorescence techniques. Cloning of B lymphocytes in soft agar cultures. Cultivation of normal and leukemic blood and bone marrow cells in soft agar and their characterization. Lymphocyte blastogenesis, etc.
